Next billion dollar tech company is coming from Nigeria, Opeyemi Paul, CEO 0’Bounce Technology

As the CEO of the fast rising Nigerian edutech startups in Nigeria, Opeyemi Paul Adekunle believed the next billion dollar tech company is coming from Nigeria.

Opeyemi and his friend Alesinloye Abiodun in 2013/2014 developed tryjambcbt.com, it was approved for use by Obafemi Awolowo University in 2016 and picked as one of the promising startups by Microsoft in 2016/2017. And also, to expand the scope of this startup, Opeyemi has come to build another startup called myExam.com.ng

In this exclusive interview with Oluwaseun Hephzibah, Opeyemi has come to solve a particular problem in the education sector in Nigeria.

Oluwaseun Hephzibah of StackPreneur (OH): Can you briefly give an overview of your expertise, experience and network that gave you the go ahead to starting myExam?

Opeyemi Paul (OP): I started coding with VB6 then VB.net to Web Languages like PHP and JavaScript. I developed tryjambcbt.com with my friend Alesinloye Abiodun in 2013/2014, it was approved for use by Obafemi Awolowo University in 2016 and picked as one of the promising startups by Microsoft in 2016/2017. The need to expand tryjambcbt.com is what gave birth to Myexam.com.ng.

OH: Can being a Mathematician or Statistician contributed to these massive achievements?

OP: Oh yea, I have my National Diploma in Maths/Statistics and it really contributed to my problem solving skills.

OH: You said expanding tryjambcbt.com gave birth to myexam.com.ng. Someone want to learn more about this. Can you shed more light?

OP: Yes. Tryjambcbt.com is a project focused on providing an 100% replica of JAMB annual UTME to students to take away there fear and make them better prepared for the real exam. But in the course of this, we noticed exam like JAMB is not the only issue Nigerian students have problem with but every exams including internal school exams causing frustrations like the 16 year old Mercy of OAU that committed suicide recently. This led to building a bigger platform where all students can collaborate on exam topics and practice past questions for free, now called myexam.com.ng.

OH: Whao! That is amazing.. Now what problem is myexam.com.ng is solving and why did you invested so much time, resources and energy on this?

OP: Myexam.com.ng is a platform that put the whole school experience into the palm of all the students. You don’t add friends, all your classmates are on your timeline, you discuss exam topics, help each other with what you’re doing or you did in class and practice past questions. Exam results is a major frustration in Nigeria, students read, read and read and even some pray but at last, the results are not as expected. With myexam.com.ng, this will be solved. Because from statistics, we noticed most students don’t even understand some part or sometimes all of the lectures they had while some students understand some. If there is collaboration, there will be breakthrough and it was noted that most lecturers repeat past questions. As a testimony, one of the users of tryjambcbt.com got 310 in this 2017 jamb UTME.

OH: This is a hack! Smiles.. I believe myexam.com.ng is a Nigerian startup and it is thriving. How will you encourage young and talented minds like you to overlook the challenges Nigeria may be facing now and solve a problems. Many believe no good thing can come out from Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

OP: Oh yea. Nigeria, my country, our country. Only we Nigerians can provide the solutions to the problems of Nigeria. The sooner we all understand this, the better. And some indicators are showing that the next billion dollar tech company will come from Africa, why can’t we make the company come from Nigeria?

And some indicators are showing that the next billion dollar tech company will come from Africa, why can’t we make the company come from Nigeria?.. Opeyemi Paul, CEO myexam.com.ng

OH: That is a great motivation… Next billion dollar tech company is coming from Nigeria. I can smell it… Hoooo! don’t mind Hephzibah, he just bypassed the normal norms… Who is Opeyemi Paul?

OP: Oh Opeyemi Paul is a … what can I say … , a young tech enthusiast from the city of Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. Loves amala and abula (our local food), started computing since J S S 2, went to Oladipo Alayande School of Science, studied Maths/Statistics at Federal Polytechnic Ede, Computer Science at University of the People and currently studying Economics at the  University of Ibadan.

OH: Thank you Paul. the next billion tech company is coming from Nigeria. What are you waiting for, let your company come on board.
