The population of Nigerians is increasing daily. According to an international survey on African nations population indicates that in 2030, Nigeria’s population, which now stands at 158 million, would hit a staggering 300 million. This data, in relation to today, speaks of the need to urgently find solutions to the eradication of food insecurity and poverty with various dynamic and strategic policies, programmes etc. to bring about social and economic development that can be sustainable.
This is the motivation behind the start of Ogafarmer.com which is an Social Enterprise AgriTech solution, that leverages on Joint Investment Strategy also called Equity Crowd Funding to increase participation in Agriculture which would boost local food production by creating a platform where virtually all classes of income earners can jointly invest token as low as ($30) and invest in organic farming projects both short term and long term. This is to create a platform that democratizes participation in Agriculture in such a way that people can choose now to participate in farming either through investment or through their skills, time and energy.
A data shows that the average age today of a farmer in Nigeria is between 55 and 60 years and by the year 2030 will rise to between 75 and 80 years. This data tells us to put premium on Youths participation in Agriculture which is why while we are working with the older farmers who are currently more predominant than the Youths in Nigerian Agricultural sector. Part of our objectives is to create platform where Youths can learn practical hands-on farming techniques and to build in them consciousness that Agricultural is a business and that it’s hold potential of helping them to create sustainable jobs and wealth for themselves.
Ogafarmer.com recently got selected for Wennovation/FCMB AgriTech Accelerator Programme where we expect to learn and refine our business model and get business development support from Wennovation hub.
With Ogafarmer.com we aim to empower more farmers, eradicate hunger, create inclusive sustainable jobs and eradicate health issues which arises as a result of malnutrition and eating chemically grown foods.
